Surgery of the Hand and Upper Extremity
Dr Steven Mahoney is a Fellowship Trained surgeon of the hand and upper extremity. He specializes in minimally invasive surgery of the hand, wrist, arm and elbow. Dr Mahoney has practiced in the Valley for the past 7 years.
Dr Mahoney was raised in Boston Massachusetts. He obtained his medical degree at Tulane University Medical School. He completed an internship in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the LSUMC program in New Orleans. He went on to complete residencies in surgery at Boston University Medical Center and Akron General Medical Center.
After completing his surgical residency he completed a fellowship in hand and microsurgery at the prestigious Christine M. Kleinert Institute in Louisville KY. This is the largest hand training program in the world and the site of the first successfully performed upper extremity transplant. He accepted an invitation to remain on staff in Louisville where he helped to run the Hand Surgery division at the University of Louisville and was on staff at the time of the third successful hand transplant in 2006.
In 2007 he began work with Dr. Brown at the Brown Hand Center where he perfected some of the same minimally invasive procedures he performs today. He has performed more Brown Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel release surgeries than any other surgeon in the Valley. He understands Phoenix is a very active community and with his patients strives to formulate a treatment plan to get them back to their activities with minimal downtime.
